How to Free up Disk Space on iPhone?

As you cannot upgrade iPhone’s internal storage managing the storage is very important for iPhone user. Following are some ways to manage and free up iPhone storage space:

Delete old Messages

you can delete messages in a bunch by single click in iOS. By default iOS stores messages for forever but you can change settings to delete old messages. Go to Settings > Messages > Message History > Keep Messages, select a time parameter, then click Delete. If you keep these settings permanent, then iOS will automatically delete old messages.

You can delete messages which have images and other space consuming stuff. But to delete them you need to open conversations and delete messages by multi-select feature.

Avoid double-saving of photos

If you use your iPhone’s HDR mode or Instagram a lot, then your phone automatically saves two photos.
For HDR mode it saves the HDR version and the normal version.In case of Instagram, the Instagram version and the normal version.

To stop double-saving HDR photos, go to Settings > Photos & Camera. Scroll down to the bottom and uncheck the toggle next to ‘Keep Normal Photo’.

To stop double-saving of Instagram photos, open the Instagram app, go to profile tab and then click the Settings icon in the upper right corner.
Uncheck the toggle next to ‘Save Original Photos’.

Clear Browser Cache

You can clean up browser cache, cookies, saved passwords to free up space. The steps are depending upon your browser. For Safari browser open up the Settings app and tap Safari. Scroll down and click Clear History and Website Data. For other browser you need to launch the app for clearing history.

Turn Off Photo Stream

If you can see photos you have taken on your iPhone or iPad, and those you have uploaded to your Mac from your camera, then it means you have photo stream turned on. Even if not having full resolution, these images occupies lot of space. To free up that space you need to turn off Photo Stream.

Go to Settings > Photos & Camera and deselect Upload to My Photo Stream. This will delete your Photo Stream from your iPhone.
But it stops uploading of iPhone photos on photo stream on other devices. You can turn uploading on again if you need.

Do Not Join Other’s Photo Stream

Don’t join other people’s Photo Streams. If you joined other’s photo stream then you will find your phone fill up with other’s photos. Turn off iCloud Photo Sharing in Settings > Photos and Camera.

Delete Music

Downloaded music occupies lot of space of your phone. To delete it Go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage and find Apple Music on the list. You can swipe to delete individual songs or you can swipe on All Songs option at the top to delete all.

Delete Reading List

Safari’s offline reading feature save webpages for offline reading. These pages consumes space in memory. To clear Safari’s offline reading list, open up the Settings app and go to General > Storage & iCloud Usage. Under Storage, tap Manage Storage > Safari. Swipe left over the option Offline Reading List and tap Delete to clear the cache.

In addition you can use third party apps which shows you how much space can be freed.
