Taking these \nadvantages into consideration, Microsoft suggests its customers to move \ntheir data from Exchange Public Folders to SharePoint. Ironically, there\n is no any specialized software provided by Microsoft for the same. \nThere are a number of third-party software available for this purpose. \nHowever, organizations working on tighter budgets may find it difficult \nto purchase license of specialized software. Thankfully, there is a \nprovision of manual migration from Exchange Server Public Folder to \nSharePoint which does not require you to purchase any license. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exchange\n Server Public Folders contain different data types \u2013 emails, contacts, \ncalendar items, tasks etc. Process for migrating from Public Folder to \nSharePoint may vary depending on the data type. In this article we will \nsee how to migrate 1. Email data and 2. Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks \nitems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Migrating Email Data from Exchange Server Public Folder to SharePoint<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the below steps to migrate email data from Exchange Server Public Folder to SharePoint: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Move Exchange Server Public Folder content to PST.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This\n step involves creating a new Outlook Data File (.PST). To create an \nOutlook Data File: Go to Home -&gt; New -&gt; More Items and then click \nOutlook Data File. Create or Open Outlook Data File dialog box opens up.\n Type the name of the PST in the File Name box as you want it to appear \nin the Outlook Navigation Pane and click Ok. To make this PST file \npassword protected, type in your password in the Password and Verify \nPassword text boxes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have created the PST file, next \nstep is to move Public Folder data to PST. For this go to the Public \nFolder and select all the content or the content which you want to copy.\n Right-click on the data and select Move -&gt; Copy to Folder option. \nWhen prompted select the newly created PST file. All the selected data \nwill be copied from the Public Folder to PST. Please note that you can \nmigrate from Exchange Public Folder to SharePoint by bypassing this \nstep, however, it is recommended to create a PST of the data which you \nwant to migrate as Users may keep accessing or changing Public Folder \ndata while you are copying it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Map a network drive to SharePoint Document library.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Open\n a web-browser and go to the SharePoint document library. When the \ncomplete path of the document library is displayed in the address bar, \ncopy it and convert it to Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format. \nAfter this the next step should be to map a network drive to this UNC. \nIn the Map Network Drive dialog box, specify a drive letter to this \nmapping and copy-paste the UNC created in the Folder textbox. Click on \nFinish to create the mapped drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Copy Content from PST to Mapped Network Drive.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n final step is to copy content from the PST to the mapped drive. This \nwill post the data to the SharePoint Document Library. After the data is\n copied, refresh your web-browser to view the copied data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Migrating Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks Items from Exchange Server Public Folder to SharePoint<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow\n the Steps given below to migrate data from Calendar, Contacts, and \nTasks from Exchange Server Public Folder to SharePoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Link the SharePoint Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks to MS Outlook.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As\n a first step, you need to connect the SharePoint Contacts, Calendar, \nand Tasks to the MS Outlook. For this open each of these in SharePoint \nand click Actions -&gt; Connect to Outlook option. After this linked \nSharePoint Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks can be seen in the MS Outlook \nunder SharePoint. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Copy Content from Source Exchange Server Public Folder to SharePoint.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Open\n the Source Public Folder Calendar in MS Outlook. Go to View Menu -&gt; \nCurrent View and select all the Calendar Items. Drag and drop the \ncalendar items from source Public Folder Calendar to SharePoint \nCalendar. Follow the same steps for Contacts and Tasks as well. Now \nnavigate to the SharePoint to view the copied items.
