Whether it\u2019s creating an offline backup of mailboxes or copying them onto a transferable drive \u2013 there are any number of reasons why you may need to perform this export. The reverse it also true \u2013 you may find yourself in a situation where you need to import PSTs into Office 365. In either case, this article will enable you to perform the process manually and show you an alternative that may make the whole thing simpler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Native Export\/Import<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exporting Office 365 mailboxes to PSTs using native means<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Login to Office 365 and go to \u2018Admin\u2019.<\/li><li>Select \u2018Exchange\u2019 option in the left corner of the \u2018Office 365 admin center\u2019.<\/li><li>Click on \u2018permissions\u2019 and select \u2018Discovery management\u2019 under \u2018admin roles\u2019.<\/li><li>Next you will have to add your account to the Members list in the \nDiscovery Management role group properties window using the \u2018+\u2019 button. \nEnsure that you assign the following roles to yourself: Mailbox Import \nExport (for exporting mailboxes) and Mailbox Search (for searching in \nthe mailboxes).<\/li><li>Go to \u2018compliance management\u2019 in \u2018Exchange admin center\u2019 and click \nthe \u2018+\u2019 symbol to start \u2018in-place eDiscovery &amp; hold\u2019 wizard.<\/li><li>Select the \u2018Don\u2019t search any mailboxes\u2019 option and click \u2018Next\u2019. \nElse, if you want to search in the mailboxes and export only the search \nresult, select that option.<\/li><li>In the next step, you will get several filtering options. Apply the required filters to search for the required messages.<\/li><li>To export the search results to a PST, click the \u2018down arrow\u2019 \nbutton. In the new dialog box specify the location to save the PST file \nand start the export.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Uploading PST files to Office 365 using native tools<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Login in to Office 365 using the administrator credentials.<\/li><li>Go to the Import page and select \u2018Go to the Import service\u2019.<\/li><li>\u2018Import files to Office 365\u2019 page will open up, click \u2018New job Add \nIcon\u2019, and then click \u2018Upload files over the network\u2019 to open that page.\n Here you will get the option to download \u2018Azure AzCopy\u2019 tool. A new \nwindow will open up, click&nbsp;Run&nbsp;to install the Azure AzCopy tool in the \ndefault location.<\/li><li>Once the tool has been installed, the next step is to copy and save \nShared Access Signature (SAS) and the network upload URL to a file. For \nthat you will have to go to the \u2018Upload files over the network\u2019 page and\n use \u2018Copy network upload SAS key\u2019 under \u2018Copy secure network upload SAS\n key\u2019 and \u2018Show URL for PST files\u2019 under \u2018Copy the secure network upload\n URL\u2019 to copy and save key and URL to a file.<\/li><li>Next, use AzCopy.exe tool to upload PST files to Office 365. For \nthat, open the Command Prompt on your local computer. Go to the \ndirectory where you installed the AzCopy.exe tool in Step 3.<\/li><li>Run the following command to upload the PST files to Office 365:<br>\nAzCopy.exe \/Source:&lt;Location of PST \nfiles&gt; \/Dest:&lt;Network upload URL + PST file path&gt; \n\/DestSAS:&lt;SAS key&gt; \/V:&lt;Log file location&gt;\n<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Being able to export Office 365 mailboxes to PSTs is a common requirement in the modern IT environment.
