For newer PST files  try second method. pst19upg converts old PST file to new file. But it  removes the password protection of old PST file during conversion  process. We can take benefit from this bug and remove password  protection. Following are steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> 1. Close Outlook and make a copy of the PST file to work with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Run scanpst.exe on the copy of your PST and choose Repair, if \nprompted. There is no need to use the backup option in ScanPST, since \nyou are working with a copy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"363\" height=\"303\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mozesoft.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/repairpst-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-638\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mozesoft.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/repairpst-1.png 363w, https:\/\/www.mozesoft.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/repairpst-1-300x250.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Go to Start &gt; All Programs &gt; cmd and type below command: \npst19upg.exe -x filename.pst Hit enter. This will create a copy of the \nPST called \u201cfilename.psx\u201d (where filename is the same name as the \noriginal PST file).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. When complete, rename the original PST file to something else, such as filename.old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"358\" height=\"322\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mozesoft.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/repairpst2-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-639\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mozesoft.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/repairpst2-1.png 358w, https:\/\/www.mozesoft.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/repairpst2-1-300x270.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 358px) 100vw, 358px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>5. Then at the command prompt, type pst19upg.exe -i filename.psx and hit enter. Type full path of psx file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6. This creates a password-free PST file from the psx file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7. Run scanpst.exe against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozesoft.com\/emailmigration\/outlook-pst-recovery.html\">recovered PST file<\/a>. You can search for tool in file explorer or find it in some default locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Outlook 2016:C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Office\\root\\Office16<\/li><li>Outlook 2013:C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Office\\Office15<\/li><li>Outlook 2010:C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Office\\Office14<\/li><li>Outlook 2007:C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Office\\Office12<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>8. Scan the file and repair if will have any errors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method 2: Use third party tools<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your PST file is in Unicode format, created in Outlook 2003 and up then you need to use third party <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozesoft.com\/emailmigration\/outlook-pst-recovery.html\">pst recovery tools<\/a>.  There are several third party tools which can recover or bypass  password from PST file.
