If you are a user of MS Outlook and are not aware of \u2018Outlook Dumpster\u2019, then this article is of your immense help. This article will teach on how you will be able to recover all your emails that are hard deleted or lost after emptying the \u2018Deleted Items<\/b>\u2019 folder.<\/p>\n

Almost all Outlook users are aware of the fact that anything they delete from their mailbox goes to the \u2018Delete Items\u2019 folder from where they can easily recover the data, if they want. However, this might be a new finding or you to know that the emails deleted from the \u2018Deleted Items<\/b>\u2019 folder and the hard deleted emails (deleted by pressing \u2018SHIFT+DELETE together) also remain there for some time.<\/p>\n

The Dumpster:<\/b><\/p>\n

The place, where these deleted emails reside after aforementioned scenarios, is \u2018Outlook Dumpster\u2019. The \u2018Dumpster\u2019 is a place where MS Exchange Server stores all deleted items for a certain period of time. This time period is called \u2018Retention Period\u2019 and is set by the Exchange Server Administrator. You can access the Dumpster from your Outlook itself by following the below mentioned steps:<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Select the \u2018Deleted Items\u2019 folder
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Go to \u2018Tools>>Recover Deleted Items\u2019<\/p>\n

This opens a window that contains all the emails deleted from the \u2018Deleted Items\u2019 folder, which have not crossed their \u2018Retention Period\u2019. However, this \u2018Dumpster\u2019 only shows those emails that have passed through \u2018Deleted Items\u2019 folder of your Outlook, but the emails that are hard deleted are not shown here.<\/p>\n

However, you need not to panic for the recovery of the emails that are hard deleted, as for them Outlook provides \u2018Hidden Dumpster\u2019. To access \u2018Hidden Dumpster\u2019 you have to make some changes in the Registry. You can follow the below mentioned steps to change the Registry settings, but you have to be careful during this process as it may corrupt your complete machine, if not followed properly.<\/p>\n

Hidden Dumpster:<\/b><\/p>\n

The hidden dumpster enables \u2018Recover Deleted Items<\/a>\u2019 options for every other folder of Outlook and enables you to recover emails that are deleted directly from a folder by hard deletion. To enable this option, follow the steps described below:<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Close Outlook completely.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Then go to \u2018Start>>Run\u2019 and type \u2018regedit\u2019 and then click \u2018OK\u2019 and the Registry Editor opens.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Go to \u2018HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Exchange\\Client\\Options\u2019.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Click \u2018Edit>>New>>DWORD Value\u2019
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Now rename this new value: DumpsterAlwaysOn
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Double click this new value and set it to 1 and click \u2018OK\u2019
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Close \u2018regedit\u2019 and then restart Outlook.<\/p>\n

With the help of the \u2018Outlook Dumpster\u2019 you can perform recovery of your deleted emails. However, the emails, which have exceeded their retention period, are not seen here and to recover them, you have to use an efficient deleted email recovery software.
