Pre requisites
\nAccess to a healthy backup.
\nName of the mailbox(es) you want to recover example: ITSupport
\nCreate a temp user with mailbox (IT2)
\nAccess to the exchange server.<\/p>\n
Procedures and steps<\/p>\n
1- Check you have enough space to accommodate the exchange database file that you will copy from the backup<\/p>\n
2- Copy the edb file from the backup and the log files to a folder called Recovery and the logs to a sub-folder Logs<\/p>\n
3- Start the EMS and run
\neseutil \/mh the status will show Dirty Shutdown.<\/p>\n
4- Run the following command to bring the database to clean shutdown state,
\neseutil \/R Exx \/l G:\\Recovery\\Logs \/d G:\\Recovery<\/p>\n
5- Create the recovery database
\nNew-MailboxDatabase \u2013Recovery \u2013Name RDB1 \u2013Server -Edbfilepath G:\\Recovery\\ -LogFolderPath G:\\Recovery\\Logs
\nRestart-Service MSExchangeIS<\/p>\n
6- Mount the database
\nMount-Database RDB1<\/p>\n
7- Verify that the mounted database contains the mailbox(es) you want to restore
\nGet-MailboxStatistics \u2013Database RDB1 | Ft \u2013auto<\/p>\n
8- Start the recovery process
\nNew-MailboxRestoreRequest \u2013SourceDatabase RDB1 \u2013SourceStoreMailbox \u201cITSupport\u201d \u2013TargetMailbox IT2 \u2013BadItemsLimit 10<\/p>\n
9- You can use the following to monitor the restore process
\nGet-MailboxRestoreRequest
\nGet-MailboxRestoreRequest | Get-MailboxRestoreRequestStatistics -IncludeReport |Format-List > C:\\AllRestoreReports.txt<\/p>\n
10- Once the restore has a status Completed run
\nGet-MailboxRestoreRequest \u2013Status Completed | Remove-MailboxRestoreRequest<\/p>\n
11- Now you can access the mailbox from your Outlook and you can restore or export any item you want include Inbox Rules just make sure there are no errors in the rules (red text) before you can export it to a file and select the server side when you access the rules.<\/p>\n
12- When you finish clean what you did unless you deal with a lot of recovery issues like this. You can remove the Recovery database
\nRemove-MailboxDatabase \u2013Id RDB1<\/p>\n
