How to Convert Mac MBOX to PST File

Mac Operating Systems support an email client named Apple Mail for users to communicate by sharing emails. The ‘Apple Mail’ email client stores all its emails in an MBOX file. To read these MBOX emails in Outlook, convert Mac MBOX to the Outlook PST file format. You need to do so because MBOX files are not supported in Outlook, whereas PST files are.

Methods of Converting Apple Mail MBOX to Outlook PST

Option 1: Manual Method

Step 1: Import all Apple Mail mailbox data into an MBOX file. To do so, execute the steps below:

  1. Open ‘Apple Mail’ on your Mac.
  2. Go to the ‘File’ menu and click the ‘Import Mailboxes…’ option.
  3. Select the program or file to import Apple Mail mailbox data. Click “Files in mbox format” and then the ‘Continue’ button.
  4. Browse to locate MBOX files and select the one to convert. Then, click ‘Choose.’
  5. Choose the data items to import. Click ‘Continue.’
  6. Click ‘Done’ after the completion of the ‘import’ process.

Here, the result is that all the imported mailbox data items are present in the ‘Import’ section of the ‘Apple Mail’ email client.

Step 2: Use Eudora (Windows version) to create a mailbox. To do so, execute the steps below:

  1. Append the MBOX file extension to the imported file. For example, rename “InboxMBOX” as “InboxMBOX.mbx.”
  2. Move the “InboxMBOX.mbx” file to the directory in which Eudora stores its files.  C:Documents and Settings<user>Application DataQualcommEudora.
  3. Run Eudora on your system. To create the mailbox, double-click on the InboxMBOX.mbx file.
  4. Close ‘Eudora.’

Step 3: Use Outlook Express to import emails.

  1. Run Outlook Express on your system.
  2. Go to its ‘File’ menu and click Import >> Messages…
  3. Choose ‘Eudora’ in the list and click ‘Next’.
  4. Browse the InboxMBOX.mbx file location and click ‘OK.’
  5. Click ‘Next’ and then ‘Next’ again.
  6. Click ‘Finish.’

Note – The imported mailbox will be present in the ‘Local Folders’ of Outlook Express.

Step 4: Import the mailbox from Outlook Express to Outlook. Here are the steps:

  1. Launch MS Outlook on your system. Then click on File >> Open.
  2. Click the ‘Import’ button and then go to ‘Import and Export Wizard.’
  3. Choose ‘Import Internet Mail and Addresses’ and click ‘Next.’
  4. Select Outlook Express 4.x, 5.x, 6.x or Windows Mail and click ‘Next.’

After performing all these steps, the Apple Mail mailbox data items will be imported into Outlook.
